Scotland 2025

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 from Milngavie to Fort William

a loch from above Loch Lomond

🎶 “Ye'll take the high road and I'll take the low, and I'll be in Scotland afore ye. For me and my true love will never meet again on the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond” 🎶

boats on a loch Loch Linnhe

I'm sorry to say I don't know a song about Loch Linnhe, but I've taken lots of photos of it while in Fort William. My favorite from the 2025 trip is this one of some adorable boats 🥰

scotland from above From the Summit

I love the way these Scottish lands look from above. This was taken on Day 2 of our West Highland Way trek, during which we climbed to the summit of Conic Hill.

a stone archway over a path Looking Back

On Day 4 walking the West Highland Way, we stopped for a snack-slash-rest-slash-hydration break. This is the view looking back the way we'd just come.

houses in the highlands Pretty

Just some cool looking Scottish houses in the Highlands in September Scottish weather during our post-hike explorations of areas surrounding Fort William.

a Scottish bed and breakfast Myrtle Bank

The sun rises behind Myrtle Bank Guest House in Fort William, one of the many amazing inns and bed-and-breakfasts we got to experience along the way.

a view of town beyond a garden Ashbank

This is the view of Drymen from the B&B where we stayed after our first day of walking the West Highland Way. The B&B itself, Ashbank, isn't in the photo 😢

house with scottish flag House Flag Wall

I'm so into these rock walls they have all over the place, and the look of all the buildings. Bonus points to this one for flying the flag. So many Scottish elements to love in this photo.

red squirrels at play on a feeder Squittles

Red squirrels are apparently a thing there. These guys were chasing each other around the feeders on a tree right next to where I sat waiting for a bus in Tyndrum.

a stone bench with celtic writing Lost Sword

No idea what this means or represents, but it appears to be a stone bench bearing the words The Loch of The Legend of the lost Sword in a lovely Celtic looking script.

a nineteenth century dress Beetle Wing Dress

I couldn't not get a picture of this 19th-century Scottish Highlands woman's dress made with beetle wing casings. On display at the West Highland Museum in Fort William.

replica of Scottish turf house Turf House

The Turf House in Glencoe is a re-creation of an old Highlands dwelling built using natural materials found on the spot. It's pretty badass inside, too, but too dark for photos.

a portion of castle ruins Old Inverlochy Castle

Old Inverlochy Castle was undergoing some kind of renovation or something, so I tried to get a photo that looks like castle but doesn't have all the scaffolding and crap.

a waterfall Lower Falls

We saw only about a squillion waterfalls, but this is the one we had a picnic at the top of. The rocks were easily hoppable and it wasn't full of people.

ruins of an old rock house Glencoe Ruins

These ruins of a 19th-century house along the path from the Glencoe Visitors Centre to Glencoe Village captivated me, as did their story.
